Folks we see only a couple times a year are in town, so we are going to dinner at a place that gives a $10 off card for birthdays. It has to be used in the month of \u2013 so we weren’t going to use it, now we are.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thus, just one item it this week’s post.<\/p>\n

Item #1: Why not Big Ben? <\/span> \"\"<\/p>\n

Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the striking clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster. One might expect the Brits to set Big Ben to bonging at the official moment of leaving the European Union (Brexit). One would be wrong.
\nHere’s why: \u00a3500,000 <\/strong><\/a>
\n [about $650,000; or $59,000 per bong]
\nThe official time is Midnight in Brussels, and thus 11:00 PM in London. <\/p>\n

Below are the first few lines of a British patriotic song:<\/p>\n

Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free,
\nHow shall we extol thee, who are born of thee?
\nWider still and wider shall thy bounds be set;
\nGod, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet,<\/p>\n

\nIn many pubs in England the “Land of Hope and Glory” will be sung at 11 PM, likely to involve \u2013 before and after \u2013 a pint of ale.<\/p>\n

And, as I finish this, England has exited the EU over an hour ago.<\/p>\n
